Q. What is microdermabrasion?
A. Microdermabrasion is a simple and effective form of exfoliation or skin resurfacing. It is
a non-invasive treatment designed to improve the overall texture, tone, and clarity of the
skin while restoring the skin's elasticity.
Q. How does microdermabrasion work?
A. This type of deep exfoliation is performed by gently sandblasting the skin with a high
pressure flow of ultra fine crystals designed to remove the outer most layers of the
epidermis followed with a vacuum suction action that removes the crystals. This
procedure stimulates the lower layers of the skin that renew the anti-aging
mechanisms of the skin.
Q. How many treatments are needed?
A. I do not recommend packages for any treatment such as microdermabrasion and/or skin
resurfacing/needling; everyone's skin is different and improvement rates are different. I
recommend the treatments on an “as needed” basis.
With a combination of chemical peels, microdermabrasions , facials and/or body skin
needling vitamin intake, and with a high quality Nouvelle Beaute skin care regimen, the
level of improvement will be dramatic and will diminish fine and deep wrinkles, deep
pitted acne scars, hyper-pigmentation, deep scars caused from chicken pox, brown/age
spots, large pores and other skin imperfections.
Q. What are the benefits of a microdermabrasion procedure?
A. * no down time
* lunch time treatment
* non-invasive
* immediate results
* suitable for most skin - not for skin that has open wounds or severe or active acne.
* smooths the surface of the skin
* aids in producing a more normal cell production
* stimulates the body’s natural collagen, lymph, and blood
* helps in treating dehydrated / dull skin
* fine lines / aging skin
* acne scarring
* skin hyper-pigmentation
Q. What are the side effects of a microdermabrasion procedure?
A. * there will be slight redness that will last for about 1-2 hours after the treatment. .
* after treatment, the skin may feel tight as if exposed to the sun or wind.
Most side effects are temporary and generally subside within72 hours. However, side effects that may occur, however unlikely and there are:
* extreme redness will subside within few hours
* swelling, bruising, stinging, tenderness which may occur with deeper treatment
levels. Healing may take several days.
Q. Is everyone’s skin suitable for microdermabrasion?
A. No! Clients who have the following should not receive treatment:
* active acne
* accutane users (should be off for a minimum of 6 months)
* sunburn
* rosacea
* untreated diabetes
* raised moles, warts, skin tags (unless treated first or we are able get around them)
* keloid scarring
* eczema/ psoriasis
* Vitiligo (is caused by a loss of pigment in the skin, due to destruction of
pigment-forming cells)
Q. Can a pregnant client undergo microdermabrasion?
A. Yes! with consent form from her physician.
Q. What areas of the body can be treated with microdermabrasion?
A. Face, neck,, decollete, shoulder, back, hands, elbows, and knees
Q. When can I use make-up after a microdermabrasion treatment?
A. I recommend waiting 24 hours
Q. Can I wear contact lenses during the treatment sessions?
A. I recommend taking them off.
Q. How should I prepare for the treatment?
A. You should use mild cleansers only. Nouvelle Beaute' Arnica facial wash is the
recommended cleanser before and after your appointment. Do not use glycolic or any
retinol products 48 hours before or after the treatment.
Q. What should I do after the procedure for optimum results?
A. I will recommend a simple skin care regimen for your skin type to use and
of course sunscreen is always a must particularly in the summer time. Avoid tanning
beds for at least 2 weeks post-treatment. I do not recommend ever using tanning beds;
sunless spray tanning is the way to go!
